Consolidated net loss for the year ended 31 March 2008 amounted to HK$1.3 billion (US$155 million), as compared to a loss of HK$119 million over the same period in the prior year. The loss was primarily attributable to non-cash and non-operational charges associated with the acquisition of Greek Mythology. Excluding these one time, non-cash and non-operating items, the Group recorded an operating profit of HK$181 million from continuing gaming and entertainment business for the year ended 31 March 2008, representing growth of approximately 56% over operating profit of HK$116 million in the prior year.

Mr. Ted Chan, CEO of A-Max, said, “During the fiscal year ended 31 March 2008 A-Max completed a share placement that generated net proceeds of approximately HK$1.95 billion. The net proceeds from this share placement provided us with the capitalization necessary to enter the junket aggregation business in Macau through an indirect 80% interest in AMA International Limited (”AMA”) with <a href="http://macau.a2zcasino.eu/taipa-island/crown-macau/"title="Crown Macau" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/macau.a2zcasino.eu');">Crown Macau. Since effecting this new business model in mid December 2007, we generated aggregate rolling chip volume of approximately HK$139 billion in three and a half months ended 31 March 2008, or approximately HK$40 billion per month. As a result of the success of this transition, A-Max has been transformed from a company that was largely known by local investors to one that currently has a significantly diversified worldwide shareholder base.

“Participating as a market leader in the junket aggregation business allows A-Max shareholders to benefit directly from the rapidly growing VIP market. The continued rapid pace of growth in the VIP segment in Macau is the result of several recent casino openings in the market. This new competitive supply has served to increase the competition for VIP players in the market, which in turn positions gaming intermediaries such as A-Max very favorably, as reported on A-Max website.

“Due to the new competitive supply that has entered the market, Greek Mythology’s unfavorable location relative to these new casinos and the property’s relatively small size, we have chosen to transition our business model away from this entity to focus on the rapidly growing gaming intermediary business in the Macau market. A-Max incurred a one time non-operational, non-cash impairment charge of approximately HK$1.4 billion, and as a result we recorded a loss of approximately HK$1.3 billion for the financial year ended 31 March 2008. Importantly, as a result of this write-down A-Max will reduce its annual amortization cost by more than HK$100 million and future results will more clearly reflect the benefit of our gaming intermediary business model.

“We believe the results of the first few months since our transition into the gaming promotion business highlight the tremendous opportunity for A-Max to participate in the robust growth of the Macau gaming market though our junket aggregation business while underscoring the rationale for transitioning our business model. We have been working exclusively with our strategic partner, the Crown Macau, where we have consistently achieved very high monthly rolling chip volumes in relation to the available supply of VIP tables. With our ability to provide liquidity to our junket partners and a casino that offers some of the market’s finest VIP services, we expect to extend the success we have achieved in the initial roll-out of our new junket aggregation business model going forward,” concluded Mr. Chan.

Tighter credit conditions have delayed financing for <a href="http://macau.a2zcasino.eu/cotai-strip/macau-studio-city/"title="Macau Studio City" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/macau.a2zcasino.eu');">Macau Studio City, a massive casino, hotel and retail project planned for the Chinese territory of Macau, the head of project partner Taubman Centers said on Friday.

The US$1.3 billion in financing was to have been completed by now. “Given the current capital market conditions, it has taken much longer,” Taubman Chairman and CEO Robert Taubman said.

“The credit markets are just terrible,” he said in a conference call with analysts a day after the upscale mall owner and operator reported a fall in second-quarter earnings, Reuters reports.

Taubman also cut its forecast for the full year, in part because of costs related to the project in Macau.

The company, based in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, has partnered with Hong Kong-based eSun Holdings Ltd for the retail portion of Macao Studio City on <a href="http://macau.a2zcasino.eu/cotai-strip/cotai-strip-mother-of-all-entertainment-strips/"title="the Cotai Strip" target="_self" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/macau.a2zcasino.eu');">the Cotai Strip, a casino, hotel, retail and entertainment center.

Plans call for Taubman to acquire a 25 percent interest in The Mall at Studio City and ultimately invest $200 million.

The venture also involves Hong Kong’s Lai Sun Development and Singapore’s CapitaLand.

“All parties are participating in a 24/7 effort to complete the financing and move forward on the project,” Taubman said

Given the tough conditions, the partners may have to put more equity into the deal, he said.

“Meanwhile, leasing is progressing extremely well,” Taubman said. “Over half of the center is committed in one form or another and the majority of tenants have posted deposits.”

The company’s funds from operations, a performance measure for real estate investment trusts, fell 3.8 percent in the second quarter, mainly because of higher pre-development costs, including those related to the Macau project.

When the joint venture agreement was struck in February, Taubman put down a $54 million deposit, which is held in escrow until the financing has been completed.

That forced Taubman to expense the interest, which trimmed its bottom line.

LiTie, one of the players of the Chengdu Club who had previously played football matches in England, said that he would prefer playing Manchester United rather than Chelsea.

“It is because Manchester does more attacking,” he said. Regarding the football challenge today, the coach of the CBFC said that they would mainly work on defence, however would consider attack launches if there possessed the odds.

Deco, one of the players of the Chelsea FC admitted that he had not performed well at the Guangzhou, China football challenge.

“It might be due to the reason of it being the first play in Asia after landing. I do hope that I can perform better in the game [tomorrow]” said Deco.

Joe Cole, another Chelsea football player who was resting with an ankle injury, might also not debut at the game tomorrow, said Luiz Scolari, Chelsea’s coach.

He added that Cole would arrive and watch the match, but not play during the game in Macau.
Peter Kenyon, chief executive of Chelsea FC, said that the Asia tour had been a long term commitment with China in particular, in order to support the football development in Asia.

The press conference at <a href="http://macau.a2zcasino.eu/macau-casino/grand-lisboa-casino/"title="Grand Lisboa" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/macau.a2zcasino.eu');">Grand Lisboa presented LiBing, the coach of Chengdu Blades Football Club (CBFC), Litie, a player of the Chengdu Club and Wangchong, another Chengdu player. On the other hand, the Chelsea FC was presented by Peter Kenyon, chief executive of the Club, Luiz Scolari, the coach and Deco, one of the most popular Chelsea players.

Among the subgroups of Food & non-alcoholic beverages, notable increase was observed in the prices of canned meat (+83.32%), fresh beef (+75.08%), rice (+69.54%), edible oil (+55.94%), fresh pork (+45.46%), chilled or frozen pork (+41.22%), fresh water fish (+36.01%), noodles (+30.43%), vegetables (+18.66%) and charges for meals bought away from home (+15.35%). For the subgroups of Health and Transport, charges for medical consultation service (+25.65%) and prices of unleaded gasoline (+32.75%) registered marked increase. Despite Government’s pay out of electricity subsidy to all households, the price index of Housing & fuels rose by 7.96%, as a result of the substantial surge in the prices of LP Gas (+26.47%), charges for maintenance & repair services of dwelling (+27.18%) and rentals for housing (+14.87%).

On the contrary, the price indices of Communication and Education registered year-on-year decrease of 6.86% and 5.83% respectively, due to reduced charges of mobile phone services and higher government subsidies to students studying in schools that did not join the free education network, Macau GIB reports.

The CPI-A and CPI-B for June 2008 were 126.55 and 124.16, up by 9.06% and 8.98% respectively year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the CPI-A and CPI-B increased by 1.23% and 1.08% respectively month-to-month.

The Composite CPI for the second quarter of 2008 increased by 8.91% over the same quarter of 2007, with marked increase in the price indices of Food & non-alcoholic beverages (+18.45%), Health (+14.24%) and Transport (+12.03%).

The Composite CPI reflects the impacts of price changes on the general population. The CPI-A relates to about 49% of households, which have an average monthly expenditure of USD375 to USD1,250. The CPI-B relates to about 31% of households, which have an average monthly expenditure of USD1,250 to USD2,500.

The Windor Arch-Macau International Football Challenge will be our second ever game in China, following the opening match of the Samsung/Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 in Guangzhou on July 23. The tour finishes in Kuala Lumpur on July 29 against a Malaysian Select XI.

The Macau game takes on an added significance because of the opposition, <a href="http://www.chelseafc.com/"title="Chelsea Football Club" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.chelseafc.com');">Chelsea FC reports.

The city of Chengdu in the province of Sichuan was very seriously damaged by the recent Chinese earthquake. There will be a series of events around the game to raise awareness and money for the earthquake relief effort.

Chengdu is also well known to Chelsea officials as it is one of the cities in the Vision China grass roots project which the club is a partner in with the Asian Football Confederation.

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said: ‘We are very happy to play this game in Macau as it has particular significance for us with our connections to Chengdu via the Vision China programme.

‘We did look at playing a game in Chengdu, and now for very obvious and tragic reasons, that will not be possible. But we are delighted to assist in raising awareness for the earthquake relief effort as well as having excellent opposition to help prepare for the new season.

‘We would like to thank our sponsors for the game, Windsor Arch, the Macau Sport Development Board and the Macau Football Association.’

As a club, we have built a number of significant relationships in China and Asia recently.

Last year Chelsea became the Official Football Development Partner of the AFC’s Vision China grass roots project, part of their larger Vision Asia programme.

So far we have helped launch five of the planned 10 Vision China city leagues, in Nanjing, Wuhan, Qingdao, Zibo and Chengdu.

Chelsea and the Chinese FA have worked closely together before and the club hosted the Chinese Olympic football team for a two week training camp in the winter of 2007. In addition Chelsea has become the exclusive football club partner of a grass roots talent search in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, where Guangzhou is the capital.

The Super Soccer Star television programme was broadcast during the spring in the province of Guangdong and the four finalists recently visited Chelsea’s world renowned Academy and Stamford Bridge.

The club is also a sponsor of the International Football Arena Beijing, the leading independent forum for debate amongst the game’s leading figures which took place last month in the Chinese capital for the second successive year.

The tour will be the first time Chelsea has played in Asia since May 2005 when the opponents were the Suwon Bluewings, the K League team owned by sponsors Samsung. Chelsea also took part in the FA Premier League Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur in the summer of 2003.
