The fastest of the five Macanese F3 drivers Rodolfo Avila is looking forward to return to the Dallara F307-Mercedes Benz cockpit to this year edition of Macau Grand Prix and the silver jubilee of the Formula 3 race around our famous Guia street circuit.

“This is my home race, and I really want to be part of the party. This is a unique, high profile event that has put many drivers on the map. Every young driver like me wants to have at least a single opportunity in this event. The circuit is full of extreme contrasts and is a huge challenge for every driver”, said Avila who is going to face an uphill battle.

Just over three days remaining before the 54th running of the prestigious Macau Grand Prix, the jewel in the Formula 3 crown. Buckingham-based Hitech Racing aims to add victory at the far eastern venue to its well-deserved and convincingly-won Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series title. The team narrowly missed out on victory in Macau last year after Marko Asmer was eliminated at the first corner after starting from the front row. Asmer, who took the team to victory in the domestic series this year, winning half the races, will spearhead the team’s Macau assault this year too and must start the event as one of the favourites.
Marko will be joined by the rapidly improving Austrian Walter Grubmüller, who is the real rookie in the team and indeed F3, with just a handful of single-seater races under his belt before he came to England. Now, with the experience gained with Hitech Racing and his team-mate Asmer, the 18 year-old heads east hoping for a strong finish to set him up for next season.

One of the best street races is without doubt the Macau GP. There is no F1 race there, but the Formula 3 race on this track is one of the must for the racing fans to see. The current F1 cars would probably offer only a procession race of Monaco style on this punishing track, but the F3 race is a different story.
Two of the current F1 drivers took part in 2006 Macau GP. Adrian Sutil finished 3rd, Sebastian Vettel had less of the look and afer some racing incidents finished a lap down at 23rd. Toyota F1 test driver Kamui Kobayashi was also on the grid and finished 19th.
One of the famous drives of the recent past was Takuma Sato’s win in 2001. Read the story here - Sato’s Macau Passion

Rodolfo Avila is at his peak of motivation and he is ready to take the challenge of another tough season in European motorsport. “I am really looking forward the season start. The championship package is quite good and the cars looks very aerodynamic and professional. The track tests proved it is faster than a F3. We are going to compete within all the 2007 European rounds of the FIA World Touring Car Championship and will get live TV coverage of all the races at the same top audience time each race weekend at Eurosport. This is very important for my sponsors”, states Asian Formula Renault 2003 Champion.
