Macau continues to receive record numbers of visitors, as the number of visitor arrivals reached 2,458,120 in November 2007, representing a year-on-year increase of 26.1%. Visitors from Mainland China and Hong Kong rose by 31.2% and 10.3% respectively, with those from Southeast Asia soared by 85.4%. Meanwhile, same-day visitors accounted for 52.1% of the total arrivals, at 1,280,484.
The majority of the visitors came from Mainland China (57.1% of the total), Hong Kong (26.7%) and Southeast Asia (5.3%). Among the Mainland visitors, 45.6% travelled to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme, at 640,143.

The Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Mr Lau Si Io, today expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers by the suspension of ferry services between Taipa and Hong Kong.
Mr Lau told reporters the Government would act accordingly to minimise the inconvenience, but he could not elaborate as the case was now before the court.

It seems that the powers to be namely Dr Stanley Ho and his daughter Pansey Ho have had some success with their arguments as the Macau Government has suspended the CotaiJet concession to operate ferry services between Hong Kong and Taipa.
Apparently the Macau Government’s reasoning was rejected by the Court, after it claimed that suspension of the concession will seriously hamper public interests

Berths rights for existing operators have not been cut and all is running smoothly at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan five days after the new Taipa bound service started, a Hong Kong Marine Department officer said yesterday.
A new operator, CotaiJets began a service between the temporary ferry terminal at Taipa and the Hong Kong Island pier. The company is running twenty trips a day between the two ports.

Details of the agreement Macau’s latest ferry operator has struck with the government were published yesterday in the government gazette.
The contract signed on October 28 authorises Cotai Waterjet (Macau) Limited to operate regular fast maritime transportation of passengers between the Maritime Terminal of Taipa and destinations in Hong Kong for a period of 20 years.

Cotai Waterjet (Macau) Limited will begin officially sailing from the Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal. Although the terminal was opened on October 16, neither of the two companies granted a license to operate from the facility was ready to sail.

The Macao Special Administrative Region Government signed on October 29, 2007 a concession contract for operating maritime passenger services between Taipa Ferry Terminal, Macao and Hong Kong with COTAI Waterjets (Macau) Limited, which is owned by Las Vegas Sands.
The signing ceremony took place in the Office of the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, with the contract signed by the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Lau Si Io, on behalf of the Macao SAR Government with COTAI Waterjets (Macau) Limited. The concession contract comes into effective from tomorrow onwards, for a term of 20 years.
