This seemed to be a bit of a non-event as we saw many stadiums with very few spectators. The only times when we saw them was at the opening and closing ceremonies. But then again in Macau it is all about spectacle, so I am sure it was a excellent promotion for Macao anyway!
The first Lusofonia Games ended here Sunday, as Brazil donned the first place on the medal list with 29 golds, 19 silvers and nine bronzes.

Vietnam has expressed great interest in Macau as a business and trade platform between China and Portuguese language countries, Edmund Ho, chief executive of the Chinese enclave city, said Monday on departure for an official visit to the Southeast Asian state.
Ho, making a five-day visit to Vietnam, said he was hopeful his trip would lead to Macau being used as a hub by Vietnamese business to enter markets in the Lusophone world.

Traditional Chinese dance, Brazilian Samba, African drums…a string of themed performances and aureate fireworks marked the opening of the 1st Lusofonia Games on Saturday evening in Macao Stadium.

Just a refresher, the Lusofonia Games are being held later this week!
July 3, 2006 | Lusofonia Games | Presided over by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Fernando Chui Sai On, “Commencement Ceremony of Volunteer Assembly and Training Program” for the 1st Lusofonia Games was held on 28 June.
Chairman of the 1st Lusofonia Games Organising Committee (COJOL) Manuel Silvério pointed out in the occasion they would need around 2,200 volunteers working for 13 fields this year.
