The investment immigration scheme through buying properties in Macau will not be resumed at least for the next two years, according to government sources.
The Jornal Va Kio reported that the Government has no intention to review the decision, announced by the Chief Executive Ho Hau Wah during the Legislative Assembly’s question time on 3 April 2007, but it does not mean that such scheme has been terminated on a permanent basis.

Lawmaker Lee Chong Cheng called on the government to cut down the rising price of housing estates and prevent the housing bubble bursting in Macau. In his written interpellation, Mr Lee asked the government if there was any microeconomic plan to halt the crisis of the burst of the housing bubble, insisting on knowing what the government will do in order to minimise setbacks in the economy and finance markets, should the bubble actually burst.
Mr Lee said in the interpellation that when looking at the the supply and demand of the housing in Macau nowadays, “the bubble is obviously appearing.” The growth of the Gross Domestic Production (GDP) in Macau was up more than three percent in the last year, the average growth of the last five years also climbed up two percent, under the robust growth of the gaming industry, he added.

The Macau government put its proposal for a law to regulate the real estate brokerage sector out to public consultation, which will require agents to be registered and to pass an examination.
The Macau real estate sector has attracted real estate agencies from Hong Kong to Macau and led to the opening of several specialized companies, which will now be subject to regulation.

The British Business Association of Macau (BBAM) opened a representational office in Macau Thursday that aims to be the “starting point” for new business opportunities and provide support for the British business community.
Henry Brockman, the chairman of the association, said that there were currently some 40 British companies in Macau, or which had string business interests in the United Kingdom, with main areas of activity being telecommunications, aviation and real estate.

Following our earlier reports comes some good news that the Macau Government is finally considering to review the construction and planning situation around the 90-meters high Guia Lighthouse.
The UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre recently send a letter to the Chinese national Commission raising serious concerns about it’s heritage status and the heights of two new developments surrounding it.

The value of property in Macau is high compared with what locals have been used to but is still in line with the region, said the asset and liability general manager of the Bank of China Macau branch yesterday.
