“Slot machines are no longer a novelty, and blackjack isn’t a novelty anymore. People aren’t going to fly 2,000 miles just to play nickel slots. What they will do though is they will fly 2,000 miles to have a great experience,” says Dr David Schwartz at the Center for Gaming Research, University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

October 9, 2006Wall Street analysts are more bullish than ever about how big the gaming market in Macau could get, raising estimates a whopping 20 percent for near-term business. Experience from two years at Sands Macau and the opening of Wynn Macau have convinced analysts there should be an added $2 billion in the former Portuguese colony’s mass market by 2010.
A lot of that is attributable to longer-than-expected stays in a market unaccustomed to Las Vegas-style hotel-casinos. On the downside, some analysts are also cutting their 2010 estimates for high rollers by $1 billion, based on doubts the Cotai Strip will be an overnight success story.
August 18, 2006So Stanley Ho’s comments were completely ignored by investors. Even a JP Morgan analyst says there will be a oversupply of demand. Hence more casino’s are coming. At last count Macau will have 49 casino’s by 2010, upp from 21 casino’s today. Looks like we will see construction crane’s for another few years yet.
As reported by AP - Shares of casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corp. climbed higher Thursday after a JP Morgan analyst said a competitor’s new casino resort in Macau will boost gambling demand in the region, resulting in overflow clients to the company’s Sands Macao property.
August 15, 2006Well it is interesting to note that Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts and PBL stock hardly moved. Stanley Ho has had a good run for many years, so it is good to know that other casinos’ like Sands Macao have found ways to lure the high-rollers away from SJM. Maybe it is because the give fair and honest service to them. Surely SJM will have to fight back and have to come up with some more innovative ways to get their VIP rollers back.
As reported in The Standard - Macau gaming companies such as Melco International Development fell following news reports quoting gaming tycoon Stanley Ho Hung-sun as saying his casino unit is losing revenue due to competition.

August 9, 2006Must be a disturbing report for USA casino owners who missed out on Macau and Singapore. Macau is getting more and more in the spotlight because not has it taken over from Atlanta City, but it’s also coming close to Las Vegas’ Strips of $6 billion.
I do agree that it is clear that Macau is fast becoming a must-visit for gambler’s worldwide.

Let’s face it Steve Wynn has made Las Vegas, like Stanley Ho has made Macau what it is today, so it will be interesting how Steve Wynn is going to shape up Macau in the next 5 years or so.
