As I cannot comment on Las Vegas properties, I still think that the US casino operators are taking a huge risk with their Macau properties. Reports that Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts are expecting about plus 90% occupancy for their rooms is a little bit far fetched.
The reason for this is simple, let’s just take The Lisboa which has traditionally only has an average occupancy of 80-85% and who knows how many of those rooms are being used by the high rollers for free.

As if the Cotai Strip is not enough Las Vegas Sands are now eyeing a couple of islands off Macau to develop some non-casino resort projects. This is amazing as these islands are not particulary idyllic beach resorts. And of course the ferries that Sands suppose to be running. Well we have to wait and see, don’t we!
As reported by Las Vegas Business Press - As part of a $2 billion deal signed Oct. 14, 2005, Sands will create a 1,600 acre “convention hotel and holiday resort,” one that will include several million feet of convention space, a marina, golf courses, tennis courts and possibly an open-air opera house.
