Managing director of MGM Grand Macau, Pansy Ho, said during the pre-opening press conference yesterday that the new hotel resort would create a healthy competition among the neighbouring entertainment venues.
Media from Macau, Hong Kong, China and other overseas countries were invited for an exclusive preview of the 35-storey hotel tower which is due to open on December 18 in Nape.

Galaxy Entertainment Group announced a third quarter drop in revenue for the company as a whole and for its flagship casino Galaxy StarWorld yesterday.
Gross earnings at the StarWorld Casino Resort fell from HKD2,209 million in the second quarter to HKD,2096 in the three months to September 30 this year.

Casino developer MGM Mirage Inc. said Monday it would open its debut property in the Chinese gambling destination of Macau on Dec. 18.
The $1.25 billion (EUR850 million) project is a joint venture with Pansy Ho, daughter of Hong Kong billionaire Stanley Ho, an gambling industry veteran.

Recent moves to diversify Macau’s economy with the development of integrated resorts such as the Venetian Macao and MGM Grand are luring eager visitors and spurring growth.
But while the cash and chips flow fast and furious on Macau’s gambling tables, the story is different on the road. Traffic congestion, hour-long taxi queues, and huge crowds at border gates - all that is getting worse as the city lights glow brighter.

Jim Murren’s promotion to president and chief operating officer of MGM Mirage didn’t get much attention when it occurred last summer.
He started with the company as executive vice president and chief financial officer after a 14-year Wall Street career. In 1999, he was named president and chief financial officer, and he is a member of MGM Mirage’s board of directors and its executive committee.

Shares of casino companies with interests in Macau plunged after preliminary data showed growth in Macau gambling revenues were below expectations, analysts said.
Analyst Celeste Mellet Brown said early figures showed September gambling revenue in the southern Chinese gambling enclave grew 55 percent from the previous year, below her forecast for more than 75 percent growth. The official data is due out in about six weeks, Brown, of Morgan Stanley, said.
