SJM’s CEO Stanley Ho guaranteed that the very first building of Hotel Lisboa will be maintained, while local historians appealed to him to consider carefully over the Hotel Lisboa demolition plan, as reported by blogmacau info.
Ho admitted that the Hotel Lisboa, inaugurated in 1970, is more like a ‘cultural relics’ to many people. The design of the complex like a bird’s cage is also connected with the principles of Fong Shui, and so it will be maintained.

As I cannot comment on Las Vegas properties, I still think that the US casino operators are taking a huge risk with their Macau properties. Reports that Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts are expecting about plus 90% occupancy for their rooms is a little bit far fetched.
The reason for this is simple, let’s just take The Lisboa which has traditionally only has an average occupancy of 80-85% and who knows how many of those rooms are being used by the high rollers for free.

Contrary to earlier reports, it has been confirmed that Galaxy StarWorld has received its gaming license and will open as planned for business today.
As reported by Bloomberg - Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. opens its StarWorld casino in Macau tomorrow, posing another threat to Stanley Ho’s dominance in the city’s gaming industry six weeks after Wynn Resorts Ltd. opened a $1.2 billion hotel-casino.

An excellent 4-page story written by Beverly Beyette, from the LATimes who recently visited Macau to find out what the fuss about this former Portuguese colony was all about.
She covers all of Macau not just the casino’s but also about the food, sights and heritage of Macau.

Macao Daily News reported the latest gaming revenue figures which are continuing to rise and are on target for a 17% for the full year. So based on those figures as we earlier reported Dr Stanley Ho Marketshare SJM income is increasing. I still do believe that SJM still occupies about 65% of Macau’s market.
Revenues in Macau’s gaming sector for September stood at MOP 4.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 15.7%, according to figures.

As reported by the Las Vegas Business Press, Stanley Ho’s share now is +/-66% of the total Macau Casino market and will shrink further to 60% by 2009. Looking at it in value of income this figure may not be so bad. In 2002 Macau Casino revenue was about US$3.5 billion, this year it’s expected to be about US$7 billion. So at 70% Stanley Ho is still looking at a cool US$4.6 billion, so base this up on a projected US$9 billion in 2009 at 60% that is still US$5.4 billion!
Considering that his new and renovated casinos are yet to be completed and open to the public, providing that the gambling revenue continue to increase he will have the majority of the gambling pot.

The Las Vegas Sun send their two reporters Jeff Simpson and Richard N. Velotta to Macau to attend the opening of Wynn Macau but also to get a feeling for the market in Macau.
They wrote four excellent articles and are talking mainly about the US casino operator’s and their Casino’s in Macau. Even though they briefly mention the sub concession, they seem to forget that PBL Melco are building Crown Macau as well as developing ‘The City of Dreams‘, not forgetting the Mocha Clubs that are running in Macau!
