The curse of the fat finger has struck one of China’s most secretive commercial dynasties as an e-mail between top executives of Shun Tak Corporation has erroneously revealed plans for developing one of the last pieces of the lucrative waterfront in Macau.
The property, in one of the world’s hottest gambling destinations, is worth about $500 million.

The efforts by MGM Mirage to open a casino halfway around the world have led to a review of whether there’s a conflict of interest within the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
For nearly three years, the division has been conducting an investigation into MGM’s partner in the Chinese enclave of Macau. The partner, Pansy Ho, is the daughter of gambling magnate Stanley Ho, who for decades has been suspected of having connections to the Chinese mob.

MGM Mirage said yesterday it was unconcerned about the overcapacity of hotels and casinos inĀ Macau, a day before it opens its casino. MGM Mirage chief executive officer Terry Lanni also dismissed fears about rising construction costs as foreign companies poured in billions of dollars into building casinos and hotels to tap the booming gaming market.

Managing director of MGM Grand Macau, Pansy Ho, said during the pre-opening press conference yesterday that the new hotel resort would create a healthy competition among the neighbouring entertainment venues.
Media from Macau, Hong Kong, China and other overseas countries were invited for an exclusive preview of the 35-storey hotel tower which is due to open on December 18 in Nape.

Berths rights for existing operators have not been cut and all is running smoothly at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan five days after the new Taipa bound service started, a Hong Kong Marine Department officer said yesterday.
A new operator, CotaiJets began a service between the temporary ferry terminal at Taipa and the Hong Kong Island pier. The company is running twenty trips a day between the two ports.

Nine days after registering his presidential exploratory committee last November, Rudolph Giuliani appeared in Singapore to help a Las Vegas developer make a pitch for a $3.5 billion casino resort. Though the bid ultimately failed, and there was nothing illegal about the involvement, it drew Giuliani into a complex partnership with the family of a controversial Hong Kong billionaire who has ties to the regime of North Korea’s Kim Jong Il and has been linked to international organized crime by the U.S. government.
Giuliani’s participation as a security consultant in the Singapore gambling venture illustrates the challenge he faces while attempting to win the Republican presidential nomination with a law-and-order message while maintaining a far-flung, international business portfolio, an unknown portion of which remains in the shadows.
