The resident population of Macao was estimated at 531,000 as at 30 September 2007, an increase of about 25,000 compared with the same period of 2006.
In the third quarter of 2007, there were 1,200 live births, up by 20.8% over the second quarter. Among the live births, 51.4% were male. The number of mortality cases reported was 346 and the major underlying causes of death were “Malignant neoplasms” and “Diseases of the circulatory system”. Meanwhile, 3 cases of fetal mortality were recorded.

This is going to be crucial to the success of the Cotai Strip, Macau so far has received over 20 million visitors this year. It is expected that this will double by the end of 2010, so that is 40 million visitors of which more than 25% are set to arrive by air. And I think it will be more than that as the Cotai Strip will get most of its visitors from outside Asia that will be attending conferences and exhibitions.
I think that Sheldon Adelson is already concerned about Macau’s airport capacity and therefore is pushing to operate ferries to Hong Kong Airport. Macau’s infrastructure expansion will be crucial to its success with the casino’s and tourism.

Macao has recorded 2.157 million border crossing (including tourists and local residents) during the Chinese mainland’s “Golden Week” holiday from Oct. 1 to 7, an official statement said on Monday.
The statement issued by the Information Bureau said the total number of tourist arrivals during the period stood at 492,564, an increase of 13.77 percent over 432,940 in the same period of last year.

HONG KONG — Macau was booming this year as a location set, but it could go bust with the arrival of casinos galore. While Macau’s exotic look has been popular in films from Josef von Sternberg’s 1952 “Macau” to “Indiana Jones,” this year, four productions have shot in the picturesque city.

Last Saturday, the Macao International Trade and Investment Fair was openend by Macau’s Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah.
In his speech at the annual conference for overseas Chinese business people, Mr. Ho said that there is more to Macau than gambling and that tourism, conferences and exhibitions will become more important for Macau’s future’s economic growth as competition will increase in the gaming industry.

Update - Again we got coming up in September 23-26, see details 11th MIF Trade and Investment Fair
According to the president of the Institute for Promotion of Trade and Investment, Lee Peng Hong, the 2006 fair, which will take place between September 23 and 26, and will have the largest attendance since the fair began in 1996. They are expecting 133 delegates from 39 countries.
