Singapore Briefed Macau Chief on Casino Resorts

Singapore has briefed the head of the southern Chinese gambling enclave Macau about the city-state’s plans for two gaming resorts, the trade minister said Monday.

Stanley Ho and Genting Deal is Off

As was to be expected Genting International PLC is pulling out of a tie-up with Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho after the deal came under the scrutiny of the government here, the company said.

Genting International said in a written statement issued Saturday that it would sell to its sister company, Star Cruises Ltd, its stake of 25 pct stake in a Macau hotel and casino project linked to Ho.

Genting Fighting For Singapore License

Genting International Ltd. said Thursday that its multibillion casino resort in Singapore is more important than its Macau casino project and that it is fully cooperating with Singapore authorities to qualify for a gaming license.

“Sentosa is the more important project for Genting (than Macau),” the company’s chief executive, Justin Tan, told reporters. “We only have a minority interest in Macau.”

Because of Stanley Ho Genting May Lose Singapore License

Singapore authority is seriously MAD at Genting Berhad and is set to teach the junior Lim a painful lesson he’ll never forget for the rest of his life. If today’s statement is any indicator to goes by, Genting’s two affiliates Star Cruise Ltd and Genting International might be severely punished (get ready for the stocks price to get beaten as well) for showing disrespect to Singapore by announcing a partnership with Stanley Ho without consulting Singapore authorities.

Singapore said it has not yet awarded a casino license to Genting Berhad, even though the Malaysian gaming group won a tender in December. On Thursday, Genting is due to sign an agreement with Sentosa Development Corp., a government-owned body which runs the resort island where the casino will be built.

Stanley Ho Buys Backdoor Entry in Singapore Casino

Macau casino tycoon Stanley has done a deal with Star Cruises, owned by Genting International Group, to buy a ten per cent stake in the company in exchange for the rights to build and operate a casino in Macau.

Star Cruises, who are the worlds third largest cruise operator, have suspended shares since January 12, announcing that a price-sensitive potential transaction was on the table, evidently in response to this news.

One must wonder why James Packer does not put the wow factor in his own backyard, the Burswood Casino in Perth. The writer is absolutely right Burswood gets many gamblers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore as it is only an 4-6 hour flight!
