Visitors From Mainland China Continues to Rise

Despite visa restrictions the number of visitors continue to rise, with  arrivals totaling 2,208,327 in July 2007 This represents a year-on-year increase of 22.5%. Visitors from Mainland China and Hong Kong rose by 24.2% and 21.1% respectively, whereas those from Taiwan, China dropped by 7.3%. Meanwhile, same-day visitors accounted for 52.0% of the total arrivals, at 1,149,072.

The majority of the visitors came from Mainland China (53.5% of the total), Hong Kong (32.4%) and Taiwan, China (5.6%). Among the Mainland visitors, 43.5% travelled to under the Individual Visit Scheme, at 513,956.

In the first seven months of 2007, visitor arrivals reached 14,848,331, up by 21.5% over the same period of last year. Arrivals from Mainland China grew by 19.3% to 8,086,130, while those from Hong Kong and Taiwan, China went up by 23.4% and 1.4% respectively. Furthermore, same-day visitors made up 52.5% of the total arrivals, at 7,790,088.

Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea increased by 14.0% to 4,953,191 over the first seven months of 2006. Among them, 4,665,624 arrived at the Outer Harbour, with 62.0% from Hong Kong and 23.6% from Mainland China. Visitor arrivals at the Inner Harbour totalled 287,567 and 54.1% were from Mainland China.

At the same time, visitor arrivals by land grew by 26.3% to 9,073,759, with 8,959,614 entering through the Border Gate; visitors from Mainland China and Hong Kong accounted for 73.4% and 19.3% respectively. Meanwhile, there were 111,293 visitors arriving through the Checkpoint of .

In addition, arrivals by air totalled 821,381, an increase of 18.5% over the first seven months 2006. Among the 813,749 arrivals at the International Airport, visitors from Taiwan, China (45.6%), South East Asia (22.0%) and Mainland China (22.0%) were the major users.
