Macau Visitor Arrivals Up 14.8%

As reported by XinHua - Macao recorded 14.15 million visitor arrivals in the first eight months this year, a year-on- year rise of 14.8 percent, according to official statistics issued on Thursday.

The figures released by the government-run Statistics and Census Service (SCS) showed that the majority of visitors came in the period from the Chinese mainland (55.1 percent), Hong Kong (31. 2 percent) and Taiwan (6.7 percent).

, with its famed casino gaming industry, has long been a tourism destination in Asia.

The region, with a population of over 500,000, logged a record 18.71 million visitor arrivals in 2005 and the number is predicted by local analysts to exceed 21 million this year.

And as reported by Morning Star - HONG KONG -(Dow Jones)- ’s visitor arrivals reached a record 1.92 million in August, up 11% from the same month last year, the territory’s Statistics and Census Service said Thursday.

The service said visitors from mainland China rose 8.4% in August, while those from Hong Kong were up 13.1%, but visitors from Taiwan fell 3.3%.
