Macau May 2007 Visitors Up 24.3%

Information from the Statistics and Census Service showed that the number of visitor arrivals totalled 2,121,988 in May 2007, representing a year-on-year increase of 24.3%. Visitors from Mainland China; Hong Kong; and Taiwan, China grew by 21.5%; 27.9% and 5.0% respectively. Meanwhile, same-day visitors accounted for 53.6% of the total arrivals, at 1,136,450.
The majority of the visitors came from Mainland China (56.2% of the total), Hong Kong (29.3%) and Taiwan, China (5.6%). Among the Mainland visitors, 50.5% travelled to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme, at 602,127.
In the first five months of 2007, visitor arrivals totalled 10,718,620, up by 21.5% over the same period of last year. Arrivals from Mainland China rose by 19.4% to 5,910,629, while those from Hong Kong and Taiwan, China went up by 23.2% and 2.9% respectively. Furthermore, same day visitors made up 52.5% of the total arrivals, at 5,627,355.
Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea rose by 13.9% to 3,586,238 over the first five months of 2006. Among them, 3,352,773 arrived at the Outer Harbour, with 61.7% from Hong Kong and 24.5% from Mainland China. Visitor arrivals at the Inner Harbour totalled 233,465 and 56.3% were from Mainland China.
At the same time, visitor arrivals by land grew by 26.1% to 6,538,400, with 6,505,014 entering through the Border Gate; visitors from Mainland China and Hong Kong accounted for 73.9% and 19.0% respectively. Meanwhile, there were 31,740 visitors arriving through the Checkpoint of CoTai.
In addition, arrivals by air totalled 593,982 in the first five months of 2007, up by 20.9% over the same period of 2006. Among the 588,488 arrivals at the Macao International Airport, visitors from Taiwan, China (45.0%), South East Asia (22.3%) and Mainland China (22.0%) were the major users.
