CotaiJets to More Than Double Sailings in 2008

Details of the agreement Macau’s latest ferry operator has struck with the government were published yesterday in the government gazette.
The contract signed on October 28 authorises Cotai Waterjet (Macau) Limited to operate regular fast maritime transportation of passengers between the Maritime Terminal of Taipa and destinations in Hong Kong for a period of 20 years.
However the agreement must be revised in 10 years’ time and can be re-negotiated in five years if “it is necessary to introduce alterations to the terms of the service or to the rules of use of the port’s infrastructure and of the passenger terminals.”
Cotai Waterjet, which began operation last week, is required to operate three ferries this year with a capacity of 325 seats each.
The contract specifies “fast” ferries must be used which travel a minimum of 20 nautical miles an hour.
The requirement is increased to a total of 10 vessels by the end of September next year.
The company has begun its operation with three vessels and plans to increase the number before the end of the year. Each of the Australian-made catamarans can hold 411 passengers.
The company must also run at least 15 trips a day too and from the Shun Tak Centre Passenger Maritime Terminal in Hong Kong by the end of this year with a minimum of 40 trips in each direction until the end of September next year.
Cotai is currently running 10 trips in each direction.
The contract also states the new operator must offer more trips if required.
“The operator is compelled to strengthen the frequency of the trips in order to guarantee the necessary transportation capacity to the satisfaction of the demand,” the contract reads.

Hey guys how did it take you 30 minutes to get to Sands?
Sands from hotel Lisboa is almost the same as Ponte 16 to Lisboa.
If it takes 10 minutes to walk to Lisboa it should be around 20-22 to Sands.
