n 2006 Air posted revenues of 3 billion patacas (US$375 million) and transported a record number of passengers and cargo, the company’s chief executive said in Tuesday.

David Fei said that it was too early to talk about results and added that although 2006 had been a good year for the company, “we perhaps have not managed to turn a profit in 2006.”

In 2005 Air posted a loss of 25 million patacas.

Last year, Air transported 2.46 million passengers against 2 million in 2005, and Fei forecast that this year the company would transport 2.8 million passengers.

Next May and June, Air is due to receive two new aircraft which will make it possible “to open new routes or increase the frequency of existing routes,” with Asian destinations the main priority.

In the Chinese New Year, the company plans to increase its number of flights by over 50 percent, with those extra flights carried out to Taiwan, Shanghai, Shenzhen and the Japanese cities of Tokyo and Toyama.
