The first stage of the project will be a line beginning at Portas do Cerco, the border between and the Chinese mainland, and end at the International Airport on Taipa island, with stations at the Sea Terminal, the Barra area, the Stadium and Dome.

This public infrastructure project is expected to take 48 months to be completed, the official told the newspaper. The idea of building a mass transit system in could be dated back to the late 1980s.
