Written on November 13, 2006 by admin

As Steve Wynn now has opened his Wynn Macau and the Galaxy Entertainment Group continuing to roll out casino’s, it is not surprising that all eyes are now on our new kid on the block James Packer. After Babylon Casino by Dr Stanley Ho, Crown Macau is the next in line to open in early 2007, to be followed closely by MGM Grand Macau. See latest construction pictures here at our Forum.

So by the end of next year all concession holders will have their casino’s operational, but at the same time another 2-3 new casinos will open. This is by then going to be a tough and competitive market.

Full store The Australian | JAMES Packer was typically tight-lipped about his plans for the Macau casino business when he attended Friday’s “topping out” ceremony for the $300 million Crown Macau - his first Asian casino venture.

Decked out with the inevitable yellow orchid corsage which typically marks dignitaries at Asian events, a slightly embarrassed-looking Packer was photographed with his diminutive partner, Lawrence Ho, and pretty Chinese girls on either side.

Packer is a latecomer to the former Portuguese enclave which opened its casino market to outsiders in 2002, aiming to be the Las Vegas of Asia.

Other operators such as US convention king-turned casino magnate, Sheldon Adelson, Las Vegas casino legend Steve Wynn and the Hong Kong-based Galaxy group already have casinos up and running in the city.

The legendary Stanley Ho, who dominated the Macau casino industry for 40 years, has his boutique casino, Babylon, which is ready to open before the end of the year, and his 47-storey, 650-room Grand Lisboa, which is slated to open in Chinese New Year in early 2007. James Packer has substantially stepped up his commitment to Macau since PBL’s first announcement about buying into the Crown Macau venture two years ago.
