Macau Government Pledges to Share Economic Success
Written on November 1, 2007 by admin
The Government will share the economic success achieved with the society, by readjusting its policies and resources.
The Chief Executive, Mr Edmund Ho Hau Wah, made this pledge when he spoke to reporters at Macao International Airport.
Asked about the progress of his annual policy address, Mr Ho said that he should be presenting it earlier this year than in previous years, adding that the Government would address concerns on different social issues and to share the economic success with the society in a prudent manner.
Mr Ho urged the people of Macau to work together to resolve the social problems they are facing, and the Government will also respond positively to their voices.
On visiting two social service institutions in Fai Chi Kei, Ho said that Macau is somewhere belongs to the people of Macau, and there must be good and fair reasons why people choose to stay in a particular place.
He also pointed out that many people, including himself, are not happy with many circumstances in the society, but no matter how many reasons Macau may not be good enough, people should work together to exalt and treasure what is good about Macau.
The social workers reflected to the Chief Executive that they were constrained by resources and hardware facilities during a meeting with him.
They also told him that frontline service workers are facing pressures in workload, being unpaid, and the professional level and social status of social workers needs to be elevated.
The Chief Executive pledged to increase funding and grants to social service institutions and social workers themselves, to promote them to improve the service and professional qualities.
He also encouraged social workers to visit abroad to learn experiences from others and relieve themselves from pressures.
