Venetian Macao Hotel Got Hit By Suspicious Fire

A fire broke out at the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel’s tower yesterday afternoon which resulted in a woman falling into a coma and being admitted into intensive care.

The Public Security Police (PSP) said the case was being treated as suspicious and has now been transferred to the Judiciary Police (PJ) for further investigation.

The incident was reported as having occurred in one of the rooms on the 18th floor in the hotel tower at 4.30pm.

According to a spokesperson of the Venetian Resort Hotel, the hotel’s alarm and sprinkler systems were activated once the fire was on and the fire brigade was informed instantly.

The resort hotel’s internal emergency team had extinguished the fire head before the fire brigade arrived on the scene.

The woman was found unconscious lying inside the room.

The PSP spokesman Pun Sio Tong said the woman showed no signs of struggle before she fell into the coma.

The person registered to the hotel room, according to Mr Pun, was a 38-year-old, surnamed Liang, who held a Hong Kong- pass.

A Mainland Chinese identification document was recovered at the scene but the PJ said they could not yet confirm if it belonged to the woman.

The resort hotel’s spokesperson said a number of guests in the immediate vicinity of the affected room had been relocated to minimise the inconvenience brought to them during the police investigation.

He added that the 18th floor of the tower was not being sealed off, and a full investigation is being undertaken by the Judiciary Police with co-operation from the Venetian’s international fire and safety team.
