Melco PBL Changes Name to Melco Crown Entertainment

Melco PBL Entertainment () Limited, a developer and owner of casino gaming and entertainment resort facilities, announced today that its shareholders passed a resolution at its Annual General Meeting to change the name of the company to Melco Crown Entertainment Limited, effective immediately. The company’s ticker symbol, MPEL, remains unchanged.

The name change reflects a previously announced change in the ownership structure of one of its founding shareholders. On December 12, 2007, Publishing and Broadcasting Limited (now known as Consolidated Media Holdings Limited) completed a demerger of its gaming and media businesses into two separate companies, both listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. The demerger was achieved by two concurrent shareholder-approved and court-approved Schemes of Arrangement under Australian Corporations Law.

Wynn Macau to Participate in Dragon Boat Races

Wynn Macau announced that its dragon boat team will participate in the International Dragon Boat Races for the second year in a row.

A team of 26 men will participate in the “ Dragon Boat Races (500m),” while a team of 13 female rowers will join the “ Small Dragon Boat Races (250m).” In order to get the best results, the 39 Dragon Boat players have had intensive group training since mid-April, in two-hour sessions three times a week.

Crown Macau Wins Prestige’s Eco-Business Award

Crown has been elected as one of the awardees at the Prime Awards for Eco-Business 2008 recently held in Hong Kong. The Awards recognize the effort and accomplishments of promoting green environment and Crown is the only hotel and casino in that has been selected along with other large-scale corporations such as The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, The Hong Kong Electric Co. Ltd. and MTR Corporation Ltd. etc.

The judging panel consisted of renowned representatives from major Hong Kong environmental protection organizations, commence and industry associations and academic scholars. Entries were judged on such criteria as strategy and measure, consciousness, and innovative idea on environmental protection.

Cotaijet to Commence Night Sailings

Cotai Waterjets () Limited announced yesterday that it has received permission from the and Hong Kong transportation departments to begin operating its (R) CotaiJets(TM) with increased frequency and at night.

Cotai Waterjets said the expanded service, which runs between the Hong Kong- Ferry Terminal at Shun Tak Centre and the Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal, will serve the public interest by easing traffic and reducing the immigration border crossing time at the ferry terminal on the peninsula.

Venetian Macao Unveils Cirque du Soleil Show

Las Vegas Sands Corp offered a peek on Thursday at a $150-million Cirque du Soleil show that will open at the Venetian , the casino operator’s latest high-stakes bet that it can get visitors to the Asian city to do more than gamble.

The dreamy “Zaia” features dancers and acrobats depicting a story of a girl who ventures into outer space in Asia’s first permanent Cirque du Soleil installation. It has an initial contract of 10 years.

Macau April Visitor Arrivals Continues to Grow

visitor arrivals totalled 2,488,697 in April 2008, a year-on-year increase of 11.8%. Visitors from Mainland China (1,482,367) and Southeast Asia (141,655) surged by 29.8% and 47.2% respectively, while those from Hong Kong (620,538) decreased by 18.5%. Same-day visitors accounted for 52.9% of the total arrivals, at 1,317,388.

The majority of the visitors came from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, which accounted for 59.6%, 24.9% and 5.7% of the total respectively. Among the Mainland visitors, 41.1% (609,221) travelled to under the Individual Visit Scheme.

Macau Government Meets Casino Operators

The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Francis Tam Pak Yuen, met with the management of six casino concessionaires to exchange views on the development of the industry.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Mr Tam disclosed that the discussions were focused on the commission rate on VIP chips and the number of tables.
